BMW has unveiled the X2 concept car at the Paris Motor Show.
“The BMW Concept X2 is a vehicle for active people looking for a combination of enjoyment and practicality. The concept displays a new and exciting facet of the BMW brand within the compact segment.”
Adrian van Hooydonk
Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.
The X2 will share the same UKL2 platform as the X1, and is dimensionally the same as the X1.
The X2 styling is certainly sportier and more masculine than the X1. And while the front grille is unmistakably BMW it is very large by comparison to existing models, and the front appearance is dominated by imposing front air intakes. The roof line and rear are also a sleeker compared to the X1 making the X2 a little less boxy. The X2 will also come with 21” wheels as opposed to the 18” on the X1, which gives, what is essentially a small car, a rather distinctive appearance.
The X2 engine choices will likely come from the X1’s 2.0-litre petrol and diesel variations.
“The BMW Concept X2 combines the fast-moving body language and slow-slung proportions of a coupe with the robust construction of an X model.”
Karim Habib BMW’s chief designer.
If that is the objective of the X2 I guess they have succeeded, so long as the production models retain much of the concept vehicles features.
Production is expected in 2017
